Hold On! |
I walked up the icy driveway, holding my daughter close. Suddenly, I slipped... Our 18-month-old daughter woke up with a raging fever and she needed to see a doctor right away. "Bundle Becky up," my husband Roy, said. "I’ll clear the driveway." Unfortunately we had a rare Georgia snowstorm the night before and we had to move at a snail’s pace on the icy roads. Finally I saw the steep circular drive of the medical centre ahead. "I’ll never get the car up there," Roy said, stopping at the bottom. "Don’t wait for me to park. Get Becky inside." Holding the baby close, I headed up the drive. Halfway there I slid on the ice, but I managed to keep my footing. A few steps later both my feet slipped out from under me. Catching me in midair, a man in a bright-red sweater hooked his arm around my waist and steadied me. "Hold on!" he said. "I’ll get you to the door." The man walked me up the drive. "Now we’re safe Becky," I said. "And thank..."
