Mizpah Covenant
Eliza Bezuidenhout

Have you ever been in a painful trial point of your life which made you feel like you are all alone?   The storms you face in this world makes you feel isolated and without hope.  Although well meaning friends want to help you, there often very little that they can do to lift the pain or remove the burden.  Do you believe that Yahweh is with you in that battle, even when crumbling walls surrounds you!

There are many scriptures which indicate Yahweh promising that He will protect us. Yahweh is capable of anything!  No storm, battle field, sickness or evil force can withheld Him. Just by the mere thought that He is the creator of all things, tells us that only by His word He can command anything to obey His voice. His power is not confined to boundaries and it supersedes the scientific laws of this world.  Most importantly, your painful struggle was seen by God long before you were born and he prepared a way to take you to victory.  He has not forgotten you now and he never will.

Yahweh promised that He will protect us.  He can, He will and He wants too
The scriptures are filled with Yahweh’s promises, but there are promises we seem to overlook. One of these is the Mizpah covenant, which is the angelic protection.
The word Mizpah goes back thousands of years. Mizpah symbolize a sanctuary and place of hopeful anticipation, a place where seemingly the impossible may happen as of divine intervention or an inspiration.

Mizpah is mentioned for the first time in Genesis 31:48-49 as a powerful watchword, when Jacob and Laban agreed at Gilead to peace. They built a memento of stone and named it Mizpah, saying: The Lord watch between me and you when we are absent one from another". Mizpah of Gilead became a memorial place in the Scriptures.

Laban said, “This heap is a witness between you and me today.” Therefore he named it Galeed, and Mizpah, for he said, “The Lord watch between you and me, when we are out of one another's sight. Genesis 31:48-49

Two words stand out in this chapter, “Galeed and Mizpah”. Galeed means “memorial” to commit to memory and remember. Mizpah is the emotional bond between people who are separated.

This verse clearly indicates the hopeful promise even in the time that we feel separated from Yahweh. We also learned that the word Mizpah is used whenever members depart from occasions such as a service.

The word "Mizpah" can often be found on headstones in cemeteries and on other memorials.  “Until we meet again”

I am sure that you are grasping onto the message of how the Mizpah introduce a clearly defined moral which taught us the qualities of goodness, kindness, and the courage that brings all understanding to light. Therefore the Mizpah is our lighthouse in a time we so very tough that we are forgotten. This lighthouse towers above all the darkness and guide us in the right direction.

There is much to learn from the word Mizpah and when we do, we will realise that there are also a promise in the covenant of the Mizpah

Yahweh has sent his Holy Spirit to be with us, to teach us, and watch over us. The angels encamp around us! How can we lose? Angels are on assignment today!

Because you have made the Lord your dwelling place - the Most High, who is my refuge - no evil shall be allowed to befall you, no plague come near your tent. For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone. You will tread on the lion and the adder; the young lion and the serpent you will trample underfoot.  “Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him; I will protect him, because he knows my name. When he calls to me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.” Psalm 91:9-16

We read from Exodus how Yahweh protected His people by the blood of the lamb blood on the two doorposts and the lintel of the houses. Furthermore they have also been under protection of the host of angels.

This too gives us insight into the meaning of the expression often found throughout the Scripture, “The Lord of Hosts.” The word “hosts” means literally “armies,” and refers to the armies of heaven, the holy angels.

In heaven, here upon earth and in the atmosphere all around us, we find this great company of spirits, unseen but truly real, just as real persons and creatures we know, but belonging to a different order of created beings.

How many other creatures did Yahweh create in our universe besides the physical bodies like ours or spirituals like the angels?  Certainly Yahweh does not limit Himself to the creation of only two classes of creatures, physical and spiritual. A thousand other forms of created beings unknown and unimaginable to us may exist, but are nevertheless know to Him and created to give to Him glory, and to do His will.

Here are some scriptures to help us not only know and realize the validity of the fact that angels are with us, but that we might be aware of their presence, and know thatwe can expect Yahweh's help through this army from heaven.

An angel came to Zacharias and Elisabeth with the message that John the Baptist would be born  Luke 1:11-20.

The angel Gabriel came to Mary and told her that Yeshua, the Son of Yahweh, was going to be born to her (Luke 1:26-35).

That was Yahweh's plan unfolding right on time, as he had prepared, planned, and written down before he ever made earth. He allowed just exactly the right amount of time, so that on a given day everything would be in readiness. Jesus presented himself as a sacrifice on the exact day that Yahweh intended for him to do it. It was definitely not something that Yahweh decided on just a few years before it happened!

He let Daniel take a look over his shoulder and said, "Daniel, I'm going to show you some of my plans. Israel is going to go into captivity for seventy years. When the seventy years are up, there is going to be a decree go out by a king to rebuild
Jerusalem.

In Luke 22:43 we also read that an angel from heaven came down and strengthened Yeshua and ministered to him at the Mount of Olives in his hour of need.

Angels are mentioned throughout the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. In Genesis 24:7, Yahweh sent forth an angel to get a bride for Isaac. This was another part of Yahweh's plan. In Exodus 23:20 he sent "an Angel before you, to keep you in the way, and to bring you into the place which I have prepared."

Yahweh sent His angels to clear the way in the going forth out of Egypt. In Psalm 34:7, the Holy Spirit had David write these words, "The angel of the Lord encamps round about them that fear him, and delivers them."

I have heard many testimonies of people and family members who were completely away from Yahweh. They refuse to even listen when anyone attempt to speak to them. Friends have talked to them, members of the family have talked to them, and others have prayed for them, but they stubbornly resisted Yahweh. They would appear to be the least likely ones to come to Yeshua, but in Yahweh's great plan and purpose he sent word through a divine emissary which turned them around.  More and more people today are turning to Yahweh and finding that He is real. What is the cause of this? The angelic hosts of heaven are on the move!

While writing this teaching, there has been a visitation of an angel that comforted me with a very clear phrase message: “Tell them that I AM cares, He is the same God as yesterday and will be the same tomorrow”

Praise Yahweh for his everlasting Word, the Torah which is our stabilization point for all things, because there is a story of the time when Elijah was weak from hunger, and Yahweh dispatched an angel to bring him something to eat. After that, he went for forty days and nights without food! Yahweh's Word is constantly being confirmed by the fulfilling of scriptures through activities on earth today each one bares the truth of those which have and those that will still occurred throughout all of Yahweh's plan.

In Isaiah 43:2 the Lord said, "When you go through deep waters and great trouble, I will be with you."

Looking back at the greatest priceless promises of Yahweh, the promise with value beyond measure is the return Yeshua who will return as KING of Kings and LORD of Lords, who said, "MY Kingdom is not of this world." If it was - HE could call LEGIONS to come fight for Him.

Since a covenant was meant to be a permanent relationship it was entered into only after much prayer, counsel and deep thought. A Witness was sought as a trusted mediator of both sides.

Mizpah according to Jewish tradition is a covenant, a promise between two parties.  A covenant was meant to be a public declaration of intent. Depending on its importance, Yahweh  was sometimes called upon to witness.  Sometimes heaven and earth were the only witnesses.

In a covenant exchange of the Mizpah often garments and weapons were exchanged.  A garment signified who the individual was and who they will become. The promise of the Mizpah covenant kept the parties ever mindful of their commitment.

The belt or girdle would be exchanged signifying, "My strength is your strength." In order to keep this covenant is much acquired from both sides. Will I give up my old life to maintain this covenant in order to enter into a new and everlasting relationship?

In  such case it is a noticeable scar which would act as a perpetual reminder as a mutual covenant . The covenant requires the circumcision of the heart, cutting loose from the worldly things, serving the same covenant in order to fulfill the promise.   This promise signified the joining of a blood relationship.

In exchange of Mizpah not asking for God's blessing or benediction but asking that Yahweh insure the faithfulness of the covenant.  The covenant of offering and acceptance. The meal of bread and wine. This is my body which as you eat it becomes a part of you; this is my blood which as you drink it becomes your blood.

Once again Jeremiah 29:11 came to me, " For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.."

In giving me these thoughts, Yahweh wanted us to see how He really felt about man; that He had man in mind before He made the earth; and He made the earth so man would have a place on which to live. When He looks at man, He does not look at the evil which has taken place, but He looks deeply at the very heart of every man.

As Samuel was leading them in a sacrificial service, the Philistines attacked.  In a miraculous display of Yahweh’s creative power, the Lord answered Samuel’s intercessory cry by producing loud thunder which sent the Philistines fleeing!  This Divine intervention is recalled in the prayers recited during the days of awe between Rosh ha Shannah & Yom Kippur, “He who answered Samuel at Mizpah, may He answer us.”

As a reminder of Yahweh’s act of mercy, Samuel erected a monument and named it “Eh-ven ha-Ah-zer,” the Stone of Support, or Rock of Help, saying, ‘You’ve been faithful to help us until this point, Lord – we can trust You to help us in the future as well.’

I personally thank Yahweh for how He has been a Rock of Help to us during this time of trouble.  He has ministered to me through His people with words of hope and comfort; He has ministered to me by His Spirit through the prayers of many; He has ministered to me through His Word and promises in His Word.

And now I commend you to God and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance among all those who are sanctified. Acts 20:32

And he said, “O man greatly loved, fear not, peace be with you; be strong and of good courage.” And as he spoke to me, I was strengthened and said, “Let my lord speak, for you have strengthened me.”Dan.10:19.

Truly the Lord’s grace and strength are manifested through His Body, how grateful I am for my spiritual family, their love and compassion.  I have received hope and confidence in God’s mercy, and its mystery. Rom.11:25, 30-32

Do not lose hope in Yahweh’s great mercy and faithfulness.
For your steadfast love is great above the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the clouds. Psalm.108:4

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. Lamentations.3:22-23.

If our hearts condemn us, Yahweh is greater than our hearts, and knows everything; we don’t 1 John.3:20.  Yahweh has been faithful to help us until now will He not continue to be in the future?  Let us erect an “even ha-azer”, a Stone of Support “Mizpah” in our hearts to remind us of His infinite love and everlasting mercy.

For His love for us are far beyond our own thinking. Yahweh loves us so much that he will command a legion of Angels to protect us.

May you receive this message as comfort within your heart. When Yahweh makes a promise! He keeps His promise! His promise is an everlasting covenant as a kingdom in heaven!
Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is nearRevelation 1:3

Hold onto Yeshua, our everlasting Covenant, our promise of Everlasting Life!

Love in Yeshua
Be blessed and stay blessed!
Have a joyful day and remember to thank Yahweh יהוה for it!
